Barak community organisations have lodged complaints against the Meghalaya administration, alleging it has not taken decisive steps to curb extremist elements and demanding prompt action.
Barak community organisations have formally accused the Meghalaya state government of failing to adopt firm measures against identified extremist elements operating in the region. The groups contend that the perceived laxity has heightened security concerns for residents of the Barak‑influenced areas.
In a written representation addressed to the Chief Minister’s office, the Barak bodies urged the administration to initiate immediate investigative and preventive actions, citing specific incidents that they say illustrate the growing threat. They called for a transparent review of existing counter‑extremism strategies and for the deployment of additional security personnel where needed.
The Meghalaya government has not issued an official response to the allegations at the time of reporting. Officials, when approached, indicated that the matter is under consideration and that any action would be taken in accordance with law and public safety requirements.
