All scheduled bank branches will remain shut on Monday, October 20, 2026, as Dussehra is observed as a public holiday nationwide.

The Economic Times reports that Dussehra, falling on October 20, 2026, is declared a bank holiday throughout India. As a result, all scheduled commercial banks, including public sector, private sector and regional rural banks, will not conduct regular transactions on that day. Customers are advised to plan their cash and digital banking needs in advance, as teller services and cash withdrawals will be unavailable at branch counters.

While the holiday is observed nationwide, some states may have specific regional banking schedules that differ for certain government or cooperative banks. Nonetheless, the central banking authority has confirmed that the standard banking calendar for the day reflects a full closure.

The holiday aligns with the traditional celebration of Vijayadashami, marking the triumph of good over evil. Financial institutions have urged customers to use online platforms for transfers, bill payments and other digital services, which remain operational despite the physical branch shutdown.

Banking officials also reminded the public that ATMs and point‑of‑sale terminals will continue to dispense cash, subject to usual limits, and that emergency cash services are available at designated locations.

The Dussehra holiday follows the earlier Diwali and Navratri observances, and the banking sector’s pause is part of the broader national holiday calendar for the festive season.
