A customer tried to deposit a bundle of counterfeit ₹50,000 at a Punjab bank, but the manager’s vigilance exposed the fraud and the suspect fled.

A bank customer arrived at a counter in Punjab carrying a bundle of notes worth ₹50,000 and asked the staff to credit the amount to his account. The cash was later identified as counterfeit by the bank manager, who immediately halted the transaction.
The manager’s quick verification of the notes, based on security features and serial numbers, revealed the fraud before any money could be credited. He confronted the depositor, who attempted to explain the situation but was unable to produce genuine documentation.
Realising the deception, the suspect fled the premises before police could be summoned. Bank officials later reported the incident to local law enforcement, who have opened an investigation into the source of the fake currency.
Authorities have warned the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious currency, emphasizing that banks have strict protocols to detect counterfeit notes.
