Bangalore's Bruhat Mahanagara Palike has begun imposing heavy penalties on apartments and commercial establishments that fail to separate wet and dry waste, collecting more than ₹3 lakh in fines on the first day.

Bangalore's Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has started levying heavy fines on residential apartments and commercial shops that do not separate wet and dry waste as mandated by the city's waste management rules.

The enforcement drive began this week, and within a single day the authority collected fines exceeding ₹3 lakh from violators.

According to BBMP officials, the penalty aims to reinforce proper waste segregation at the source, reduce landfill burden and improve recycling rates across the city.

The civic body warned that repeated non‑compliance will attract higher penalties and possible legal action, urging all property owners to adopt the required segregation practices.

The move reflects BBMP's broader initiative to strengthen solid waste management and align with Karnataka's environmental goals.
