Police officials in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh admit they are ill‑equipped to handle serious offences in the town’s fast‑growing industrial zone.

Baddi, a town in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, has emerged as one of the country’s largest pharmaceutical and manufacturing clusters, hosting hundreds of factories and employing thousands of workers. The rapid expansion has drawn attention not only from investors but also from law‑enforcement agencies tasked with maintaining order.

Local police officials, however, have publicly acknowledged that their force is not equipped to tackle the surge in serious crimes reported from the area. Senior officers cited shortages of specialized personnel, limited investigative resources, and inadequate infrastructure as key constraints that hamper effective response to offences such as theft, fraud and violent incidents linked to the industrial ecosystem.

Industry representatives expressed concern that the policing gap could deter future investment and jeopardise worker safety. State authorities have been urged to augment the Baddi police contingent, provide advanced training, and deploy modern surveillance tools to bridge the capability shortfall. The police department has indicated that a review of manpower allocation is underway, but no concrete timeline has been disclosed.
