During the early‑morning bhasma aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain, Baba Mahakal was anointed with Panchamrit and adorned with bhang, a moon motif on his head and a serpent around his neck.

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh – On Saturday at 4 a.m., the Mahakaleshwar Temple conducted its regular bhasma aarti. As part of the ritual, the deity Baba Mahakal received a Panchamrit abhishek, a traditional offering of five sacred liquids.

Following the abhishek, temple priests applied a special decoration using bhang, a preparation traditionally associated with certain Hindu festivals. The adornment also featured a symbolic moon placed on the deity's head and a representation of the serpent Sheshanaga draped around the neck.

The elaborate presentation was witnessed by devotees gathered for the early‑morning worship. Temple officials said the decoration reflects traditional iconography and seasonal customs observed at the shrine.

No additional ceremonies or announcements were made beyond the described ritual.

The event underscores the continued cultural significance of Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain’s religious calendar.
