A resident of Deoli in Rajasthan discovered that an unfamiliar application had silently installed itself on his smartphone. Within a short span, the app triggered a transaction that debited ₹84,000 from his account with Central Bank of India.
The victim said the phone became unresponsive, which stopped him from reaching the cyber‑crime helpline. After the device hung, he visited his bank and filed a formal complaint with the local police and the bank's fraud department.
Bank officials confirmed the withdrawal and are now investigating the source of the rogue software. The case has been logged as a cyber‑fraud incident, and investigators are urging users to keep their devices updated and to avoid installing apps from unverified sources.
Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators, but they have warned the public about similar malicious apps that can harvest banking credentials and initiate unauthorized transfers.
