An armed assault at a Sikh gurdwara in Edmonton injured two people and reportedly involved disrespect to the Guru Granth Sahib, prompting police investigation.

Police in Edmonton responded to an emergency call reporting an attack on a local Sikh gurdwara on Thursday. According to officials, the assailants entered the premises and used force, resulting in two individuals sustaining injuries that required medical attention.

Witnesses said the attackers also behaved disrespectfully towards the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, which is kept on a raised platform inside the sanctuary. Community members expressed shock and condemned the act as both a criminal offense and a violation of religious sanctity.

Local law enforcement has launched a criminal investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and collecting statements from congregants. No arrests have been announced yet, and authorities are urging anyone with further information to come forward.

The incident has sparked concern among Sikh diaspora groups across Canada, who are calling for heightened security at places of worship and a swift judicial response to the perpetrators.

The gurdwara, which serves as a cultural and spiritual hub for Edmonton's Sikh community, remains closed pending the investigation, while support efforts are underway for the injured and the broader congregation.
