Assam’s Railway Network Achieves Full Electrification, Boosting Passenger Experience

The Indian Railways has completed electrification of all routes in Assam, enabling faster, cleaner and more reliable train services across the state.
The Indian Railways announced that the entire railway network in Assam is now fully electrified. This milestone marks the completion of the state’s electrification drive, replacing diesel traction on all passenger and freight routes with electric locomotives.
Electrification is expected to improve train punctuality and reduce travel time, as electric engines deliver quicker acceleration and higher average speeds. Passengers will also benefit from a quieter ride and lower emissions, contributing to cleaner air in and around stations.
The achievement aligns with the national target of electrifying the whole Indian railway system by 2025. By eliminating diesel consumption on Assam’s tracks, the move supports the country’s climate‑change mitigation goals and reduces operating costs for the railways.
