Truck drivers from Assam said they will stage a protest after Mizoram announced tighter entry curbs, saying the move hampers freight movement between the two states.

Assam's transport community has voiced strong opposition to the newly announced entry restrictions imposed by the Mizoram government. The curbs, which limit the number of trucks allowed to enter Mizoram each day, are intended to ease traffic congestion in the hill state but have triggered concerns among freight operators about delayed deliveries and increased costs.

Representatives of the Assam Truckers Association said the measures could disrupt the supply chain of essential goods, especially agricultural produce and construction materials that move regularly between the two states. They warned that a coordinated protest, potentially involving a convoy of trucks, will be organized if the restrictions are not reconsidered.

The Mizoram transport department has not yet responded to requests for comment, but officials previously indicated that the policy aims to improve road safety and reduce wear on mountainous routes. The situation remains under close watch as both state governments assess the impact on regional trade.

Stakeholders from the logistics sector are urging a dialogue to find a balanced solution that safeguards road conditions while ensuring the smooth flow of goods across state borders.
