Assam will forward flood damage details of three districts to the central government, with 57,000 families slated for compensation, announced Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Assam government is preparing a detailed report on flood damage in three districts and will submit it to the Union Ministry shortly. The data collection, carried out by district authorities, covers loss of homes, agricultural produce and infrastructure.
Based on the assessment, about 57,000 families across the affected districts qualify for compensation under the state’s flood relief scheme. The compensation package is intended to help households rebuild houses and restore livelihoods disrupted by the recent floods.
The move comes as the monsoon season continues to cause widespread flooding in the Brahmaputra basin, prompting several states to seek additional central assistance. Assam’s submission aims to expedite fund release and ensure timely support for the most vulnerable families.
State officials have urged affected residents to cooperate with survey teams to verify damage claims accurately. The central government is expected to review the data and approve the disbursement of relief funds in the coming weeks.
