Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 350,000 additional PM Awas houses have been approved for Assam, aiming to boost affordable housing for low‑income families.

Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the central government has cleared the construction of 3.5 lakh new units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the state. The approval was disclosed during a press briefing in Dispur, where the CM highlighted the scheme's role in addressing the housing deficit among economically weaker sections.

The PM Awas Yojana, launched in 2015, seeks to provide affordable, pucca houses to families earning below a specified income threshold. Assam's allocation adds to the cumulative national target of 20 million homes, with the new batch intended to be built over the next few years.

State officials said the additional units will be distributed through existing implementation mechanisms, involving local bodies and housing boards. Funding is expected to come from a mix of central grants and state contributions, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive the promised shelter without delay.

The CM urged eligible households to register promptly and assured that the government will monitor progress closely to meet quality and timeline standards.
