Stakeholders in Assam have called for strict implementation of recently introduced waste management rules, urging state authorities to enforce the regulations to curb environmental pollution.
Stakeholders from the construction sector, municipal bodies, and environmental groups convened in Guwahati to discuss the enforcement of Assam’s newly enacted waste management rules.
During the meeting, participants highlighted that the rules, which aim to reduce landfill usage and promote recycling, are not yet fully operational across the state.
They urged the state government to tighten monitoring, increase penalties for non‑compliance, and provide resources for waste segregation at the source.
The stakeholders warned that lax implementation could lead to rising pollution levels and health risks for local communities.
