Assam Seeks Growth Beyond Traditional Sectors, Says Finance Minister

The state's Finance Minister told Pioneer Daily that Assam is actively moving beyond its traditional economic base of agriculture, tea plantations and oil extraction. He emphasized that the government is formulating policies to attract investment in sectors that have not historically dominated the state's output. New focus areas include manufacturing, information technology services, tourism and renewable energy projects such as solar and bio‑energy. The minister said these initiatives are expected to create jobs, increase export earnings and reduce the state's reliance on a narrow range of commodities. He outlined a package of fiscal incentives, infrastructure upgrades and skill‑development programs designed to make Assam a competitive destination for domestic and foreign investors.
