Assam police have arrested 24 individuals suspected of being illegal immigrants during a raid on several homestays, the state’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed.

In a recent operation, law‑enforcement agencies in Assam conducted coordinated raids on a number of homestay establishments suspected of sheltering illegal immigrants. The police action resulted in the detention of 24 persons identified as unauthorized entrants.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, speaking to the media, confirmed the arrests and said the operation was part of the state’s ongoing effort to enforce immigration laws and protect local resources. He emphasized that the authorities will follow due legal process for each detainee.

The seized individuals are being held for further verification and possible deportation, according to standard procedures. Officials have not disclosed the exact locations of the homestays or the nationalities of those arrested.

The crackdown comes amid heightened scrutiny of illegal migration in Assam, a long‑standing concern for both state and central governments. Police have urged the public to report any similar activities to help curb unlawful entry.
