The Assam government has cleared plans for roughly 350,000 additional homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the chief minister announced.

The state administration of Assam announced that it has approved the construction of about 3.5 lakh new houses under the centrally‑funded Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The approval was conveyed by the chief minister during a press briefing, underscoring the government's commitment to expanding affordable housing.

PMAY aims to provide safe and dignified homes to low‑income families across the country. Assam's latest allocation seeks to bridge the persistent housing gap in both urban and rural areas, targeting households that currently lack adequate shelter.

The approved projects will be executed over the coming years, with funding expected to flow from both central and state budgets. Officials said the new units will be built using a mix of government‑subsidised schemes and private‑sector participation to accelerate delivery.

State leaders highlighted that the initiative will not only improve living conditions but also generate employment in construction and allied sectors, contributing to the region's broader economic development.
