The Assam employees' body has urged the state government to roll out the previous pension scheme without delay, citing concerns over retirement benefits.

The Assam Employees' Association, representing a broad spectrum of state government staff, submitted a formal request on Monday demanding the immediate reinstatement of the pre‑2015 pension framework. The body argues that the newer pension model reduces retirement benefits and places undue financial strain on long‑serving employees.

In its petition, the association highlighted that many workers nearing retirement have been unable to plan adequately due to the reduced accrual rates under the current scheme. It called on the state administration to act swiftly, warning that prolonged delays could affect morale and lead to industrial unrest.

The state government has not yet issued a response, but officials indicated that the matter would be reviewed in the upcoming budget session. Stakeholders are watching closely as the pension issue remains a sensitive topic across several Indian states.

If the old scheme is reinstated, employees anticipate a restoration of higher pension payouts, aligning with the benefits enjoyed before the 2015 reforms. The association plans to hold further consultations with the government to expedite the decision.
