Assam Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed says Assam and Meghalaya cannot operate in isolation

During a recent public gathering, Congress legislator Rekibuddin Ahmed asserted that Assam and its neighbour Meghalaya cannot function in isolation. He highlighted the intertwined nature of the two states' economies, infrastructure and social fabric.
He pointed out that cross‑border trade, shared water resources and common transport corridors make cooperation essential for sustainable development. Any unilateral policy, he warned, could disrupt livelihoods on both sides of the border.
Ahmed called for joint planning committees and regular dialogue between the state governments to address shared challenges, urging political leaders to prioritize collaborative solutions over isolated agendas.
