Assam's chief minister called for a unified national strategy to combat the growing drug problem, saying the fight cannot be Assam's alone.

Assam's chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that tackling drug abuse cannot be a solitary effort of the state and urged a unified national strategy. He highlighted rising drug consumption in Assam's districts, citing recent seizures and arrests, and called on the central government to allocate resources, strengthen inter‑state coordination, and streamline enforcement mechanisms. Sarma appealed to other state governments to share intelligence, adopt best practices, and collaborate with central agencies such as the Narcotics Control Bureau, emphasizing that a coordinated approach is essential to curb the growing menace. The remarks were made during a press conference in Guwahati, where he also announced plans to set up a state‑level task force to monitor drug trends and support rehabilitation.
