The Assam state cabinet has cleared a set of regulations that require all coaching centres to register with authorities and provide mental‑health services to students.

During a recent cabinet meeting, the Assam government approved a comprehensive framework aimed at regulating private coaching institutions across the state. The new rules mandate that every coaching centre obtain official registration, submit periodic reports and adhere to prescribed infrastructure standards.

Under the mental‑health clause, centres will be required to appoint qualified counselors or partner with nearby health facilities to offer psychological support and stress‑management programs for learners. The cabinet also directed the education department to set up a monitoring cell to ensure compliance and to conduct regular audits.

State officials said the measures are intended to curb unregulated growth of coaching hubs, protect student welfare and address rising concerns over exam‑related anxiety. The regulations will come into force after a stipulated notification period, during which existing centres must complete the registration process.
