Cab operators in Assam have halted vehicles heading to Meghalaya, prompting state ministers to schedule talks aimed at resolving the dispute.

Cab operators in Assam have set up a blockade on the main highway used by vehicles traveling to Meghalaya, stopping the flow of traffic in the region. The drivers, representing a local association of taxi services, claim that recent policy changes have adversely affected their earnings and have therefore resorted to the roadblock as a form of protest.

The obstruction has forced several buses and private cars to seek alternate routes, causing delays for commuters and freight moving between the two states. Local authorities have reported growing congestion on nearby roads as motorists attempt to bypass the stalled corridor.

In response, ministers from both Assam and Meghalaya have agreed to meet later this week to discuss the cab operators' grievances and to find a mutually acceptable solution. Officials indicated that the talks will focus on revisiting transport regulations and exploring compensation mechanisms, with the aim of restoring normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
