The Assam unit of the BJP has endorsed the government’s push to expand agarwood cultivation and urged that growers receive a fair portion of the benefits.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Assam wing publicly backed the state government's initiative to promote agarwood farming, a high‑value timber known for its aromatic resin. Party leaders said the move could boost rural incomes and position Assam as a key player in the domestic and export markets for agarwood products. They also appealed to the administration to ensure that the financial returns from the scheme are equitably shared with the cultivators who invest time and resources in planting the trees. The BJP statement highlighted the need for transparent pricing mechanisms and timely support services, such as seedlings and technical guidance, to help growers maximize yields. Officials from the agriculture department have indicated that the program will include subsidies and market linkage assistance, though details on implementation remain under discussion.
