An Assistant Sub‑Inspector in Shahdol was suspended after tribal residents accused him of drunken assault, verbal abuse and seizing a rooster during a Chief Minister’s Janvishvas campaign.
Shahdol police suspended an Assistant Sub‑Inspector (ASI) after tribal villagers lodged complaints of misconduct during the state Chief Minister's Janvishvas outreach program. The suspension marks the third time the officer has been held accountable for similar allegations.
According to the villagers, the ASI approached them while intoxicated, engaged in abusive language, physically assaulted several individuals and forcibly took a rooster that was part of a local ritual. The incident reportedly occurred in a remote hamlet where the Janvishvas event was being organized.
District authorities said the suspension was immediate and will remain in effect pending a formal inquiry. The police department has ordered an internal investigation to verify the claims and determine any further disciplinary action.
