Arunachal to Equip 393 Health Centres with Solar Power under Energy for Health Scheme

The Arunachal Pradesh government announced that 393 government health centres will receive solar power installations under the Energy for Health initiative, aiming to ensure reliable electricity for medical services.
Arunachal Pradesh has launched an Energy for Health programme that will install solar power systems in 393 public health centres across the state. The move is intended to address chronic power shortages that hinder the delivery of essential medical services, especially in remote and hilly areas.
The solar installations will be sized to meet the electricity demand of each centre, covering lighting, refrigeration for vaccines, and operation of basic medical equipment. By shifting to renewable energy, the state expects to cut dependence on diesel generators and reduce operational costs.
State Health Minister Dr. Taba Tapo highlighted that reliable power will improve patient care, enable longer operating hours, and support telemedicine initiatives. The project is slated for phased rollout over the next 12 months, with priority given to facilities lacking grid connectivity.
The initiative aligns with broader national goals of expanding clean energy use and strengthening rural health infrastructure, reinforcing Arunachal Pradesh's commitment to sustainable development.
