Students' union AAPSU has raised concerns about a severe teacher shortage in Arunachal Pradesh, urging Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona to address the issue.

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has formally voiced its alarm over a growing teacher shortage affecting schools across the state. In a statement released this week, the union demanded that Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona take immediate steps to recruit and retain qualified teachers.

AAPSU highlighted that many schools are operating with fewer than the mandated teacher‑to‑student ratio, leading to larger class sizes and reduced instructional time. The union cited reports of vacant posts that have remained unfilled for months, citing budgetary constraints and logistical challenges in remote districts.

Minister Sona has acknowledged the issue and said the state government is exploring solutions, including incentives for teachers willing to serve in hard‑to‑reach areas. However, AAPSU remains skeptical, urging the minister to expedite the recruitment process and improve working conditions.

The teacher crisis has already begun to affect student performance, with several schools reporting lower exam scores and increased dropout rates. AAPSU’s call for action comes at a time when the state is preparing for the upcoming academic year.

The union plans to organize further demonstrations and will seek support from the state’s education department to ensure that all schools are adequately staffed before classes resume.
