Arunachal Protests Escalate as MLA Alo Libang’s Home Vandalised

Anti-dam demonstrations in Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh have escalated following an incident in which the house of local legislator Alo Libang was reportedly vandalised. Protesters, who oppose the construction of a new dam on the Siang River, have gathered in larger numbers, chanting slogans and blocking roads.

Witnesses say that the vandalism involved broken windows and spray‑painted slogans on the MLA’s residence, which is located in the district’s main town. Local police have secured the area and are investigating the attack, while the opposition party has called for a bandh to pressure the government.

The state government has stated that it remains committed to the dam project, citing its potential for hydroelectric power and irrigation. However, it has also pledged to address security concerns for public officials and to engage with community leaders to ease tensions.
