The Arunachal Press Club and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists jointly denounced recent limits on SUMP news coverage, demanding clarity and transparency from authorities.
The Arunachal Press Club (APC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) released a joint statement condemning newly imposed restrictions on news reports related to the State Urban Management Programme (SUMP). The bodies said the curbs obstruct the free flow of information and threaten journalistic independence.
Both organisations have called on the state authorities to provide an immediate explanation for the measures and to ensure full transparency about the criteria used to limit coverage. They warned that any interference with media work erodes democratic norms.
The statement, published on northeasttoday.in, urged the Arunachal Pradesh government to lift the restrictions and guarantee that media outlets can operate without undue interference. APC and APUWJ also pledged to monitor the situation closely and take further action if press freedom continues to be compromised.
Stakeholders in the state’s media sector have expressed concern that the limitations could set a precedent for future constraints on reporting, potentially affecting coverage of public policy and development projects across Arunachal Pradesh.
