Arunachal Pradesh Urges Central Kiwi Research Institute and Expanded KVK Network at ICAR AGM

At the Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s Annual General Meeting, Arunachal Pradesh officials pressed for a dedicated kiwi research institute and a larger Krishi Vigyan Kendra network to boost the state’s horticulture sector.
During the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Annual General Meeting, a delegation from Arunachal Pradesh highlighted the state’s emerging interest in kiwi cultivation. The officials argued that a dedicated central research institute would provide the scientific backing needed to develop high‑yielding, climate‑resilient kiwi varieties suited to the region’s terrain.
The delegation also called for an expansion of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) network across Arunachal Pradesh. They noted that existing KVKs are insufficient to reach remote farming communities, limiting the dissemination of best practices and new technologies.
State authorities said that strengthening research and extension services would diversify the horticulture portfolio, create market opportunities for farmers, and align with the government’s push for climate‑smart agriculture. ICAR officials acknowledged the proposals and indicated they would be examined in upcoming policy reviews.
If approved, the new kiwi research institute and additional KVKs could position Arunachal Pradesh as a notable player in India’s emerging kiwi industry, potentially attracting private investment and export prospects.
