Arunachal Pradesh authorities have reopened the Pangsau Pass Border Haat, a key trade point between India and Bhutan, after a long closure, boosting cross‑border commerce.
The Pangsau Pass Border Haat, situated on the India‑Bhutan frontier in Arunachal Pradesh, was reopened on Tuesday after a prolonged shutdown. The reopening was inaugurated by Arunachal’s Chief Minister and Bhutanese trade officials, signalling a renewed focus on bilateral trade.
The market, which had been closed for several months due to logistical challenges, now offers a platform for local traders to sell spices, tea, and handicrafts to Bhutanese buyers, and to import goods such as dairy products and textiles.
Officials say the revival is expected to generate fresh revenue for the state and improve livelihoods in the remote border districts. Traders from both sides have expressed optimism about increased footfall and smoother customs clearance.
The move aligns with New Delhi’s broader strategy to enhance trade corridors with neighboring countries, aiming to boost economic integration and regional connectivity.
