State authorities in Arunachal Pradesh reported the removal of more than 18,000 acres of illegal narcotics cultivation as part of a intensified anti‑drug drive.
The government of Arunachal Pradesh announced that a coordinated operation by the police and forest department has cleared over 18,000 acres of land previously used for illegal narcotics cultivation. The sweep, described as part of an intensified anti‑drug campaign, targeted remote valleys and forested areas where poppy and other controlled substances were being grown.
Officials said the operation involved aerial surveillance, ground patrols and the destruction of crops before they could be harvested. Seized material was handed over to the narcotics control bureau for further investigation.
The state chief minister praised the teams for their diligence and warned that the crackdown will continue until all illicit cultivation is eradicated. No arrests or seizures of processed drugs were reported in the initial statement.
The move comes amid growing concerns about drug trafficking routes through the Northeastern region, prompting neighboring states to step up similar enforcement measures.
