Arunachal Congress announced the formation of a dedicated fact‑finding panel to scrutinise the numerous hydropower schemes proposed or under construction on the Siang River. Party officials said the move aims to replace conflicting narratives with verified information.
The panel will comprise senior party members, technical experts and representatives from districts directly affected by the projects. Its charter includes a comprehensive assessment of environmental, social and economic impacts of existing and planned dams.
Local communities and environmental NGOs have repeatedly voiced concerns about displacement, altered river flow and ecological damage. The Congress leader stressed that any policy decision must rest on solid data rather than political rhetoric.
The committee is expected to submit its findings to the state government within a defined period, after which the party will decide its stance on the continuation or modification of the hydropower initiatives.
