In a statement released today, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu condemned a United Nations map that depicts the northeastern state as a disputed territory. He described the depiction as "misleading" and said it undermines India's sovereign rights over the region.
Khandu reminded that Arunachal Pradesh has been an integral part of the Indian Union since independence and that the border dispute is a bilateral issue between India and China, not a matter for third‑party cartography. He urged the UN to respect India's official position and to refrain from publishing maps that contradict internationally recognised boundaries.
The chief minister's remarks come amid heightened diplomatic sensitivities after recent high‑level talks between New Delhi and Beijing. New Delhi has repeatedly protested any portrayal that suggests a claim over Arunachal, emphasizing that any resolution must be based on the status quo and existing treaties.
