Police say an artisan fled with 68 g of gold, claiming he needed to verify a number, after stealing jewellery valued at ₹7.61 lakh from a shop in Mandvi, Vadodara.

Police in Gujarat reported that a gold theft occurred in the Mandvi area of Vadodara, where jewellery worth approximately ₹7.61 lakh was taken from a local shop.

The suspect, identified as an artisan working in the vicinity, allegedly asked the shopkeeper to let him check a number before the theft. During this pretext, he escaped with about 68 grams of gold.

Investigators have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses. The police have appealed to the public for any information that could help locate the perpetrator and recover the stolen gold.
