On the third day of protests in Delhi urging the Chief Election Commissioner’s exit, police detained about 500 demonstrators.

Delhi police reported that roughly five hundred people were taken into custody on the third consecutive day of a protest that calls for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). The demonstration, which began two days earlier, has been marked by large crowds gathering near key government offices and chanting slogans demanding the CEC’s resignation.

Authorities said the arrests were made after clashes broke out between a segment of the protesters and police personnel, leading to the deployment of additional forces to contain the situation. Several participants were charged with unlawful assembly and obstructing public order, while others were released on bail.

The protest organizers have maintained that their demand stems from concerns over alleged biases in the electoral process. They have urged the government to initiate an inquiry into the CEC’s conduct, but officials have so far declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations.

Human rights groups have called for a review of the police response, emphasizing the need to protect the right to peaceful assembly while ensuring public safety. The situation remains under close observation as the protest enters its fourth day.
