About one in five LPG users in Kolkata have not completed the mandatory e‑KYC update, according to a Times of India report.
The Times of India reports that roughly 20% of households and businesses in Kolkata have not yet refreshed their electronic Know Your Customer (e‑KYC) details for their LPG connections. The figure translates to one in every five customers who remain non‑compliant with the latest verification mandate.
The e‑KYC update is part of the government's effort to digitise customer records and ensure safety and continuity of LPG supply. Under the scheme, consumers must submit current identity and address proofs through online portals or authorised centres.
Authorities have warned that failure to complete the e‑KYC could lead to temporary suspension of LPG cylinder deliveries until the verification is done. They are urging the pending users to update their details promptly to avoid service disruption.
The shortfall highlights the challenges of reaching the last segment of consumers in a densely populated city, where digital literacy and access to verification points vary widely.
Officials plan to intensify outreach through local agents and community centres to help the remaining customers meet the compliance deadline.
