The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled a new Generic Pharmacy Scheme aimed at Backward Class youth, offering a ₹4 lakh subsidy to help them start their own pharmacies.
The state government of Andhra Pradesh today announced the launch of a Generic Pharmacy Scheme targeting youth from Backward Classes. The initiative seeks to promote entrepreneurship by enabling beneficiaries to set up their own generic pharmacies.
Under the scheme, each qualifying young entrepreneur will receive a subsidy of ₹4 lakh, which can be used to cover start‑up costs such as licensing, inventory and infrastructure. The subsidy is intended to reduce financial barriers and encourage the establishment of affordable generic medicines across the state.
The scheme is part of the government’s broader effort to boost employment opportunities for disadvantaged communities while ensuring wider access to essential medicines. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria related to age, educational background and community status, and will undergo a verification process before the subsidy is disbursed.
Officials say the program will be rolled out in phases, beginning with pilot districts in the coming months. The government has also pledged to provide training and mentorship to help new pharmacists navigate regulatory requirements and market dynamics.
