Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has asked the Union government to accelerate approvals and funding for the Visakhapatnam metro rail project and a proposed Godavari‑Cauvery inter‑river water link.

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh – Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu met senior officials of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Thursday, pressing for immediate central support to launch the Vizag Metro. He highlighted the project's potential to de‑congest the city, boost public transport usage and generate employment.

Naidu also raised the long‑pending proposal to link the Godavari and Cauvery rivers, a scheme he says could address water scarcity in several districts across the state. The chief minister urged the Centre to expedite clearances and allocate requisite funds, citing the strategic importance of inter‑river water transfer for agriculture and industry.

While the central government has not yet issued a formal response, Naidu indicated that the state is prepared to share costs and cooperate on feasibility studies. He reiterated that timely action would reinforce the partnership between the state and the Union, and accelerate development initiatives under the National Infrastructure Pipeline.

The Vizag Metro, envisioned as a multi‑phase rapid transit system, has been awaiting central approval for land acquisition and project financing. Similarly, the Godavari‑Cauvery link remains in the planning stage, with environmental clearances and inter‑state coordination pending.

Naidu concluded by urging the Centre to treat both projects as priority items, stressing that they align with the government's broader goal of enhancing urban mobility and water security nationwide.
