The state government announced plans to deploy 500 specially designed vehicles, dubbed "Thalli-Bidda Express", to provide transportation and support services for expectant mothers and newborns across Andhra Pradesh.
The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled a new initiative to deploy 500 "Thalli-Bidda Express" vehicles across the state. These vans are designed to offer safe, reliable transportation for pregnant women and newborns to and from healthcare facilities.
Each vehicle will be equipped with basic medical supplies, a dedicated seat for a caregiver, and a small waiting area for mothers. The fleet aims to reduce travel time and improve access to antenatal and postnatal care, especially in rural districts.
Health officials say the program will help lower maternal and infant mortality rates by ensuring timely medical attention. The vans will also serve as mobile health units, providing basic check‑ups and health education during transit.
The rollout is scheduled to begin in the next quarter, with the first batch of vans arriving in the capital, Amaravati, before expanding to other districts. The initiative is part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen maternal and child health services.
