The Andhra Pradesh government is courting South Korean and Japanese shipbuilders to set up large shipbuilding hubs in the state.

The state of Andhra Pradesh has launched a high‑profile outreach to South Korea and Japan, inviting their leading shipbuilding firms to invest in large‑scale shipyard projects. Officials say the initiative aims to transform the coastal region into a major hub for commercial and defence vessels, leveraging the technical expertise of the Asian partners.

State authorities have reportedly held preliminary meetings with senior executives from several Korean and Japanese shipyards, outlining incentives such as land allocation, tax breaks and infrastructure support. The government hopes that the collaboration will generate significant employment and boost export earnings.

If successful, the proposed hubs could position Andhra Pradesh alongside traditional Indian shipbuilding centres, diversifying the state's industrial base and strengthening its ties with key maritime economies.

The project is still in the discussion phase, with detailed agreements expected to be finalised after further feasibility studies and regulatory clearances.
