The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the filling of 913 vacant Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) positions to boost rural health services.

The state cabinet of Andhra Pradesh has given formal approval to recruit for 913 unfilled ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) posts across its districts. ASHA workers serve as the first point of contact for primary healthcare in villages, facilitating immunisation, maternal care and health awareness programmes.

The decision follows a prolonged vacancy backlog that had limited the reach of government health schemes in remote areas. Officials said the recruitment drive will be conducted through the state’s existing civil service channels, with selections expected to begin within the next few weeks.

Health department sources indicated that filling these positions is expected to improve coverage of the National Health Mission and strengthen community-level disease surveillance. The newly appointed ASHAs will undergo standard training before deployment.

The move aligns with the state’s broader objective of enhancing rural health infrastructure ahead of upcoming national health initiatives.
