Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced that the state will achieve full housing coverage for all low‑income families by 2029.
Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, declared a statewide goal to provide housing to every eligible poor household by the end of 2029. The pledge was made during a press conference in Hyderabad, where the government outlined its commitment to complete the existing housing backlog and extend new units to underserved regions.
The initiative builds on the state's earlier housing programmes, such as the Andhra Pradesh Housing for All scheme, and will be financed through a mix of state funds, central assistance and private‑sector partnerships. Officials said the plan includes constructing both individual homes and multi‑family apartments, with priority given to families lacking any permanent shelter.
Implementation will be monitored by a dedicated task force that will track progress quarterly. The government aims to complete construction of the remaining units within the next six years, while also upgrading infrastructure in newly built colonies to ensure access to water, electricity and sanitation.
If successful, the target would place Andhra Pradesh among the few Indian states that have achieved near‑universal housing for low‑income groups, a milestone the administration hopes will boost social welfare and stimulate local employment in the construction sector.
