The state government of Andhra Pradesh has approved an increase of 424 postgraduate medical seats, aiming to expand specialist training capacity across its medical colleges.

The health department of Andhra Pradesh announced that 424 new postgraduate (PG) medical seats will be added to the state's existing quota. The decision was taken to address the growing demand for specialist doctors and to strengthen the state's healthcare infrastructure.

Under the expansion, the additional seats will be distributed among the state's government and private medical colleges, covering a range of specialties such as surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics. Officials said the move will enable more graduates to pursue advanced training without having to relocate to other states.

Implementation is expected to begin in the upcoming academic year, subject to approval from the Medical Council of India and the completion of necessary faculty and infrastructure upgrades at the participating institutions.
