India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands volcanoes have been officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, marking a significant step toward future inscription.

India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands volcanoes have been officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, a prerequisite for eventual inscription as a World Heritage Site.

The inclusion follows a comprehensive assessment by UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre, recognising the region’s unique volcanic formations and their geological significance.

Experts say the move will help protect the islands’ fragile ecosystems and promote sustainable tourism. The tentative listing also opens avenues for international cooperation and funding for conservation.

Officials from the Ministry of Culture and the Andaman and Nicobar Administration welcomed the decision, highlighting the need for continued research and preservation efforts.
