A young man from Amritsar's Bhindi Saidan area died after ingesting a toxic substance following an argument with his in‑laws.
Police in Amritsar reported that Bhola Singh, a resident of the Bhindi Saidan police jurisdiction, died after consuming a poisonous substance. The incident occurred when he travelled to his in‑law's house to bring his wife home, and a dispute erupted between him and members of his wife's family.
According to statements obtained by local authorities, the argument escalated quickly, after which Singh allegedly ingested the toxic material in an apparent act of self‑harm. He was found unconscious and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Amritsar police have opened a case to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death. Investigators are collecting forensic evidence and interviewing witnesses from both families to establish a clear timeline of events.
Officials emphasized that while the incident appears to be a suicide triggered by a domestic dispute, a thorough probe will ascertain whether any criminal liability exists for others involved.
