Amritsar shopkeeper confronts footpath clearance team, sparks argument with ADCP

A municipal team arrived in an Amritsar market area to clear merchandise that had been placed on a public footpath, as part of routine enforcement of street‑level regulations. The crew began moving the items when a female shopkeeper, whose stall is adjacent to the walkway, intervened and confronted the workers.
The shopkeeper objected to the removal, arguing that the goods were essential for her business and that the clearance operation was being carried out without prior notice. She physically blocked the team, leading to a brief standoff.
Police officials, including the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), were called to the scene. The ADCP engaged with the shopkeeper, and the discussion quickly escalated into a heated argument over the legality of the clearance and the rights of the vendor.
No injuries were reported, and the incident concluded with the team resuming its work after the ADCP intervened. Local authorities have not released further statements regarding any penalties or follow‑up actions.
