Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, elected from Amritsar North, has stepped down from his MLA post, citing personal reasons.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, the elected representative from the Amritsar North constituency in Punjab, submitted his resignation from the Punjab Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The resignation was formally recorded with the Assembly Secretariat, ending his tenure as an MLA.
In a brief post on the social media platform X, Singh wrote, "I have ended my parents' culture," a statement that has drawn attention but was not elaborated upon further. No official explanation beyond the post was provided by the legislator or his party.
The resignation creates a vacancy in the Amritsar North seat, and the Election Commission is expected to announce a by‑election schedule in accordance with constitutional provisions. Party officials have indicated that they will nominate a new candidate to contest the upcoming poll.
