Amnesty International, after reviewing witness statements and visual material, confirmed that Delhi police deployed pellet‑firing shotguns, tear‑gas launchers, grenades, batons and electric shock devices against demonstrators.
Amnesty International released a statement saying its investigation into recent demonstrations in Delhi found that law‑enforcement officers employed a range of crowd‑control weapons that exceed accepted standards.
The human‑rights group said it had examined eyewitness testimonies and video footage, which showed police firing pellet‑type shotguns, deploying tear‑gas canisters, grenades, batons and electric shock devices against unarmed protesters.
Amnesty did not name individual officers but warned that the use of such lethal‑style munitions in a civilian setting contravenes international norms and could amount to excessive force.
The organization called on the Delhi Police and the central government to launch an independent inquiry, hold accountable those responsible, and adopt less‑lethal methods for future demonstrations.
