Amit Shah says Gujarat remains drought‑free thanks to Modi’s water push

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Gujarat has avoided drought this year, attributing the outcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s water‑conservation programmes.
Amit Shah, speaking at a press conference in Gandhinagar, affirmed that Gujarat has not experienced drought conditions this season, a situation he linked directly to the central government’s water‑management initiatives championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The minister highlighted recent projects such as the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Scheme, rejuvenation of traditional water bodies, and the promotion of micro‑irrigation techniques, which together have bolstered groundwater levels across the state.
State officials have reported improved monsoon water storage and a rise in reservoir capacity, allowing farmers to maintain crop cycles without the severe water shortages that plagued parts of western India in previous years.
While acknowledging the positive impact, Shah cautioned that continued vigilance and community participation are essential to sustain the gains, urging local administrations to monitor water usage and support ongoing conservation measures.
The statement comes as the central government pushes its broader “Jal Shakti” agenda, aiming to replicate Gujarat’s experience in other drought‑prone regions of the country.
