Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a Rs 255 crore dairy processing plant in Ujjain, part of a series of projects aimed at expanding Madhya Pradesh's dairy industry.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Ujjain on Thursday to commission a new dairy processing facility valued at Rs 255 crore. The plant, built on a freshly allocated plot of land, is expected to increase milk processing capacity in the region and create substantial employment opportunities for local farmers and workers.
The inauguration formed part of a broader push by the Madhya Pradesh government to modernise the state's dairy sector. Alongside the Ujjain plant, similar projects were launched in Bhopal and Shivpuri, signalling a coordinated effort to upgrade infrastructure, improve cold‑chain logistics and raise the quality of milk and milk‑based products.
State officials said the new facility will incorporate advanced pasteurisation and packaging technology, enabling producers to meet both domestic demand and export standards. The initiative aligns with the central government's dairy development goals and is projected to boost the state's dairy turnover by several hundred crore rupees over the next few years.
Local dairy cooperatives welcomed the development, noting that increased processing capacity will help them secure better prices for their milk and reduce post‑harvest losses. The government has also announced ancillary support measures, including training programmes for farmers and subsidies for cold‑storage equipment.
The project underscores Madhya Pradesh's ambition to become a leading dairy hub in central India, leveraging its sizable cattle population and strategic location to attract investment and improve farmer incomes.
