Local authorities and residents have accused scrap dealers in Mohali of purchasing stolen items, urging a police investigation.

Local residents and community leaders in Mohali have raised concerns that several scrap dealers are allegedly buying and reselling items reported as stolen. The accusations were first voiced during a public meeting held at the municipal office, where complainants presented a list of goods they claim originated from recent thefts.

The petition submitted to the Punjab Police specifically names a few scrap yards in the industrial zone of Mohali, urging authorities to verify the source of the materials and to launch a formal investigation. Representatives of the dealers, however, have denied any wrongdoing, stating that they acquire metal and other items through standard market channels.

Police officials have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and indicated that a preliminary inquiry will be initiated. They have asked the complainants to provide any supporting evidence, such as receipts or police reports, to facilitate the investigation. The matter remains under review, with the community awaiting a decisive response from law‑enforcement agencies.
